Beginning June 16th, the Swope Art Museum will be open to the public.

Hours:
Tuesday – Sunday
12:00pm – 5:00 pm

We will be closed Friday nights until further notice.

● In consideration of our guests concerns, we are not currently scheduling special events at the Swope.  That policy will be reevaluated in September.  For the time being, guests are welcome to visit the museum, but no classes, programs or other events will be conducted.

● Summer Art Studio classes will be conducted in July at Hawthorne Park.  Click here for enrollment details.


What should we know before visiting the Swope Art Museum?

Every guest must wear a mask. If a guest does not have one, we have masks available. Donations are appreciated.

○ Guests must maintain social distancing, except for their own family or friends with whom they came.

Number of guests in the museum at any one time will be limited to 20.

○ First floor bathrooms will be available to guests. Second floor bathrooms will be closed to guests. Only one guest is allowed in the bathroom at a time unless the guests arrive together.

○ No laptops or other large parcels allowed in the museum. Purses allowed.

○ The masks and hand sanitizer will be located easily available to guests next to the donation box and Dipjar.

○ Museum store items have been removed and no merchandise will be available till further notice. Items can be purchased through the museum’s website and pick-up at the front desk with ID and receipt.

○ Requests to pay for membership will be referred to PayPal online.

○ Coat racks are kindly not to be used.

○ The water fountain will be turned off.

○ Benches have been removed from the front lobby and galleries.

The Swope will reopen on Tuesday, June 16 with a Tuesday to Sunday schedule. Hours: Noon-5 pm. The museum is closed Monday. Masks will be required for all visitors and staff. While no programs, talks or tours are scheduled in the museum until further notice, the Summer Art Studio for children is planned in cooperation with Vigo County Parks and Recreation in July. The Swope will reopen with a traveling exhibition: C. Curry Bohm: Brown County and Beyond, presented by Jerry Penman Mitchell in memory of her late husband David Carroll Mitchell.
