February Workshop

Weaving with Nature

February 13, 15, 20 & 22 from 3 – 5 PM

Instructor: Cathie Laska

In this introductory workshop you will be learning techniques in weaving using nature as your inspiration. You will be creating a beautiful branch weaving! You will also learn how to use a table loom to create a table runner made out of upcycled plastic bags.
Cost $75 (members) / $95 (non-members)
All instructor fees and materials are included in cost.

 

Instructor Biography
Cathie Laska is a veteran elementary art teacher of Vigo County School Corporation (36 years), who presently works at the Swope Art Museum as a Gallery Assistant and as a docent, occasionally giving tours. She has been weaving for over 40 years and enjoys sharing her weaving skills with others. Cathie belongs to the Wabash Valley Weavers Guild and has, throughout the years, taught continuing education weaving and felting classes to adults. She has been a pioneer weaver at Fowler Park’s Pioneer Days, and has had numerous other weaving instruction opportunities. Cathie also enjoys painting, drawing, photography, as well as a few other creative endeavors.

 

March Workshop

Printmaking Linocuts Workshop

Printmaking Linocuts Workshop

March 18 and 25 from 1 – 5 PM

Instructor: Soulaf Abas

In this workshop, students will explore, experiment and expand their printmaking skills. Utilizing traditional methods in relief printmaking, students will be encouraged to discover various possibilities in mark making and compositional solutions, as well as a various approached to the printing process. Students will  leave this workshop with a new printmaking knowledge and experience, as well as a completed edition of prints.

Cost $75 (members) / $95 (non-members)

Instructor Biography

Soulaf Abas was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. She received her bachelors and masters degree in fine art (painting and printmaking) at Indiana State University She currently teaches at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. Soully has worked with different groups of students from young children to adults and seniors, as well as intellectually challenged individuals and children with trauma in both Syria and the United States.
