Swope Museum Tours
Whether you’re bringing a class of students or a small bunch of friends, docent guided tours will let you get beyond the label and enrich your experience at the Swope!
What are guided tours like?
Guided tours last approximately one hour, and are available for groups ranging in size from six to 60. Tours offer insight into the history of American art and the artistic process, and may be tailored to suit a variety of ages and interests.
When can my group take a guided tour?
Tours are available year-round, Tuesday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and Saturday between noon and 4:00 p.m., but the museum is happy to adjust the time and length of the tour to your needs.
How do I book a tour?
To book a tour for your group, please fill out the Group Tour Request Form, or call the museum at 812.238.1676. We will follow up with you to finalize a date and time and will again contact you shortly before your tour date for confirmation.
How much do group tours cost?
Tours, like admissions, are always free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
What happens when we arrive at the Museum?
Groups enter through the museum’s main entrance and are greeted by one or more docents. If your group is large, it will be broken into smaller subgroups. Free two-hour parking is available on Ohio Boulevard and Wabash Avenue. Two-hour validated parking is available for Museum visitors in the Skygarden garage, located directly west of the museum. Just ask at the Welcome Desk for your validated parking pass. The Swope has one wheelchair available, and the 1948 elevator will fit most mobility devices one at a time. Please notify us at least two weeks before your tour for any special-needs requests.
Can my group take a self-guided tour?
Of course! Groups are always welcome to explore the museum on their own.
What happens if my group cancels?
If you must cancel a tour, please e-mail the Director of Education, Emily Bennett, at Bennett@Swope.org, or call 812.238.1676 x 130.
