CREATIVE CONSTRUCTION

Artists in 3rd-6th grades will explore all the exciting aspects of construction: plumbing, electricity, building; and also use those materials to create Steam Punk art. Each day will be divided between the Children’s Museum and the Swope Art Museum. Put your hands and imaginations to work! More Information.

Artists will create a steampunk animal sculpture and learn how to construct using a plan and creating a blue print as a guide.

DRAWING COMICS IN INK

June 8 – 12

12 pm – 2 pm

In this studio, artists will create their own comic characters, story line, and drawings. They will learn ink techniques and use the same materials like the masters in comics do! They will focus on how to have a complete composition of story-line and movement throughout the frames while depicting motion and emotion.

VISUAL EXPLORATIONS FOR ARTISTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

June 15 – 19

9 am – 11 am

This studio will offer various media experiences. Artists will have the opportunity to explore and experiment visual experiences using paint, yarn, papier-mâché, air dry clay, and paper. Parents or Guardians are welcome to attend studio sessions with the artists.

<3 Terre Haute Project

June 15 – 19

12 pm – 2 pm

Artists will use their creativity to illustrate what they love about Terre Haute and imagine what the future of this city could possibly hold. This studio will explore powerful methods of sharing stories and communicating ideas with zines, murals, and more!

JUNIOR MASTERS OF THE SWOPE

June 22 – 26

9 am – 11 am

Become inspired by the Swope’s permanent collection — landscapes, Regionalist work from the 30s and 40s, Contemporary Art, sculpture, and more! Get insider knowledge and a behind the scenes peek from the Swope’s Curator in this studio. Artists will use the collection as inspiration to make artwork with various mediums.

BUILD-A-PLUSHIE

June 22 – 26

12 pm – 2 pm

Artists in this course will learn simple sewing techniques and skills to create their own plushie designed by them. They will create a practice plushie then draw and create their own design. Artists will work through a similar design process real Toy Designers use today!

TINY WORLD: SCULPTURE AND MINIATURE MAKING

July 6 – 10

12 pm – 2 pm

This studio will use a wide variety of materials to create a tiny world of art! Artists will create dioramas filled with small scale sculptures. Artists will experience air dry clay, paper mache, cardboard construction, and many other interesting materials. Projects will be very open-ended. Artists will have the freedom to pick a theme and run with it!

ART AND ARCHITECTURE

July 13 – 17

12 pm – 2 pm

Artists will tour historical buildings and places in downtown Terre Haute and create artwork inspired by what they see. Sketchbooks and pencils will be provided for artists to sketch and write down their ideas while on-site. Each day, they will do a small tour, and return to the Swope to create artwork based on what they learned.

PAINT YOUR PET!

July 13 – 17

12 pm – 2 pm

Have fun while learning in this intermediate level acrylic painting studio where artists will learn the elements and principles of design as well as several acrylic painting techniques.  The artists will then apply those art appropriate terms to their artwork making a painting using up close pieces and parts of an animal of their choice.

* the picture used for a reference can be a beloved pet or a random animal!

SUPER PSYCHEDELIC DRAWING AND DOODLES

July 20 – 24

12 pm – 2 pm

Artists will use fun, mixed-media techniques to add extra flair to their drawings! This studio will focus on improving observational drawings skills as well as having artists try their hand at drip painting, cup paint pours, splatter painting, and paint marker sketching. The end result:  drippy, colorful, and totally unique creations!

POP ART COLLAGES AND GRIDS!

July 20 – 24

12 pm – 2 pm

Artists will have fun while learning in this intermediate level acrylic painting studio. Artists will learn about various pop art including artists like Romero Britto, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.  Artists will also learn about the elements and principles of design, as well as several acrylic painting techniques.  The artists will then apply those art appropriate terms to their artwork making a painting using up close broken pieces and parts for a grid or a collage using one or more items from the pop culture of their choice.
