Artist on Art
November 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us on November 18th to hear Dr. Lloyd Benjamin at 6 PM on the second floor.
“My interest in writing about architecture goes back to my undergraduate days at Emory University when, as a fledgling art historian, one of my professors observed I wrote well about architecture. Like works of art, buildings I saw were the concretization of their times. What were the stories ISU’s buildings might tell?
The first and last comprehensive history of ISU was written and published in 1946 by William O. Lynch. My goal was not to write a traditional history, but to develop an architetural narrative that focused on each president and the buildings and campus planning accomplished during each presidency. In my book, you will find a discussion of the major aspects of each president’s challenges and accomplishments, a discussion of “the times” in which they worked and an analysis of each of the buildings built during their respective presidencies beginning with the founding of the Indiana State Normal School in 1865.”
