Borders – A Regional Survey will feature works by selected artists working in the Midwest United States that are exploring borders and border issues in a myriad of ways. Collectively they present concepts that consider the invisible lines in the ground that separate, protect, endanger and define us.
The internet has emphatically dissolved borders in a universe that ignores political and geographic divisions while running parallel to one with physical borders still intact, though evolving through forces of nature or political prowess. Regardless of any alterations, the imprints of the symbolic lines are indelibly imprinted on our individual and collective experience, lingering long in our memories.
The exhibition is co-curated by Mary Kramer, artist and director of Art Spaces, Inc. and Lisa Petrulis, curator of the Swope Art Museum.
