Due to the COVID pandemic, the Annual Student Exhibition had been postponed in order to continue showcasing the artwork of our local students online. Each artwork was individually photographed and labeled accordingly.
19 Elementary Schools submitted a total of 86 works
7 Middle Schools submitted a total of 37 works
6 High Schools submitted a total of 74 works, 39 of which were chosen by juror Chris Berti, Professor of Ceramics at Parkland College, Champaign, IL
For those unfamiliar with our Annual Student Exhibition, in 1966, Director Howard E. Wooden suggested that the Swope, in cooperation with the Vigo County School Corporation, hold a student exhibition to showcase the excellence of both the area’s young artists and the area’s art teachers. It was Mr. Wooden’s feeling that the perspectives of young talent revealed the health and cultural awareness of a community, as well as the success created when teachers encourage self-expression along with technical disciplines. The exhibition features student artwork from each school in the Vigo County School Corporation, as well as several other area private schools. Additionally, at the high school level, the show is open to surrounding counties and home-schools and functions as a juried exhibition.
High School (9th – 12th grades) was juried this year by Chris Berti, Professor of Ceramics at Parkland College, Champaign, IL. Every school that entered work into the competition was guaranteed at least one work included in the exhibition. However, award distribution was at the juror’s discretion. The high school level was open to surrounding counties (Indiana: Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Clay, Owen, Greene, and Sullivan; Edgar and Clark in Illinois) and home-schools in addition to the schools of Vigo County.
Elementary and middle school entries were not juried for exhibition or judged for awards. Selections were limited to elementary and middle schools in Vigo County with an art program run by an art teacher. All artworks entered according to the included guidelines is shown.
Thank you for your patience as we worked hard to present this exhibition online.
Without further delay, enjoy the artwork from our local artists!
