In 1903 Sheldon Swope had a vision for Terre Haute.

Could he have dreamed its realization would be our magnificent art collection and vibrant community programs?
Our founder Sheldon Swope recognized that art enhances a community. The Swope Art Museum celebrates his legacy through free museum admission, programs, and exhibitions. The Museum needs your support so we can continue fostering learning, discovery, and achievement through our programs and exhibitions. Your gift will make a difference in the lives of people in the Wabash Valley and beyond! The Swope is particularly proud of its role in art education because students who participate in art education have higher GPAs and standardized test scores and lower drop-out rates. Your gift helps the Swope touch the lives of thousands of young people through free programs such as our weekly Art Start for preschoolers, First Fridays, Second Saturday Studios, tours for all fifth-grade students in the Vigo County School Corporation, and scholarships to the Summer Youth Art Program.
We depend on your donations!
The Swope’s endowments provide less than 20%
of the Museum’s general operating costs.
Please help the Swope stimulate creativity and enhance your community by making a tax-deductible gift to Sheldon’s Legacy Annual Fund today. Your generous donation will assure that Sheldon Swope’s gift of a community art museum continues to be available for everyone. Your gift may be doubled or even tripled if you or your spouse work for (or are retired from) a company that will match your contribution.
Thank you for your annual support of the Swope!
